David Imburgia - Instructor
Tango embraced me in 2002, and I embraced tango in 2003. I cam to tango slowly, but it was worth waiting for. Argentine Tango is about the beauty of connection. Teaching the art of tango is difficult, but it is wonderful to share.
I began teaching Tango when our local instructor quit suddenly. It was not my goal in life to lead classes, but I came to quickly love the joy of seeing dancers delight when they suddenly felt some sense of Tango working for them. Hundreds of dancers have been in classes with me over these years.
Tango speaks to many elements of our lives. And I hope to bring my elements to tango. For twenty years I have practiced Tai Chi as an art of movement. I have long enjoyed sea kayaking, bicycling, tennis, and hiking. I think that all these sports interact with Tango.
My pursuit of tango has led me through many classes in the region, from Seattle to Vancouver and Victoria. I have studied with the most respected teachers, attended the best workshops, and I have danced in Paris and Rome. Always I am focusing on learning, so that I can better share.
In classes we will learn some steps, of course. But always we will return to the development of good balance, patience, and connection. We must always emphasize the music and the grand poetry and opera of Tango. I feel a sense of responsibility to share this with the students.
Every dancer is unique. Every dance is a new adventure. Our classes will take this into consideration. We will focus on care in our steps. We will talk about mechanics, floor navigation, and all the special challenges of tango. Our goal will be to help you find the joy of great tango; that moment when you complete a dance and feel exhilarated, as if you have been on a journey and are now returning home.
